WESTMINSTER, Md. - A tip-in by Josh Parra as time expired gave Franklin & Marshall a 58-56 victory over the McDaniel College men's basketball team Saturday inside the Gill Center on Senior Day.
Prior to the game, the Green Terror (8-16, 4-14 CC) honored senior
Kevin Salley and junior
Justin Wunder who were playing in their final game in a McDaniel uniform.
In two seasons with the Green Terror after transferring from Garrett College, Salley appeared in 20 games, including a career-high 10 this season. He made his second career start on Saturday, finished with four points.
Wunder, who is graduating in just three years this May, played in 14 games for McDaniel after transferring from Bridgewater (Va.). He appeared in a career-high nine games this season before suffering a season-ending injury.
The Diplomats (12-13, 7-11 CC) led by as many as nine with 11:36 remaining in the second half before the Green Terror used a 16-7 run to tie the game at 49-49 on a three-pointer by junior
Charles Contee.
After making 5-of-6 free throws over the next two minutes, F&M would push its lead back to three with 12 seconds remaining, 56-56. However, on its ensuing possession, McDaniel would tie the game for the sixth time on a three-pointer by senior
Carter Truby.
Following a blocked layup by junior
David Smoot with less than three seconds to play in regulation, Franklin & Marshall looked to inbound the ball under its own basket. Jaylen Green lobbed a pass into the middle of the paint where Parra went up, grabbed it and tip it toward the basket.
After two bounces, the ball fell through the net to give the Diplomats the win and secure them the sixth-seed in next week's Centennial Conference Men's Basketball Championship.
Sophomore
Russell Dandridge led the Green Terror with 10 points, eight of which came in the second half. Contee scored all eight of his points in the second half while junior
Jeong Hwang scored all eight of his in the first half. Contee added a team-high seven rebounds and three steals.
Truby finished with six points, five rebounds and four assists while freshman
Christian Taylor totaled three points, five rebounds and four assists.
Franklin & Marshall scored 19 points off 17 McDaniel turnovers and made 19-of-25 free throws.
