SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Garnet built a ten-point lead going into the halftime break. They maintained that lead throughout the second half and ended up beating the Green Terror, 84-60.
George Visconti scored and assisted on the first two baskets of the game for Swarthmore (21-2, 15-1 CC). The Green Terror (8-14, 4-12 CC) got on the board after back-to-back pull up jumpers from
Lorin Hall. Hall and freshman
Christian Taylor led McDaniel with 11 points each. At the 15:13 mark,
Hall got past his defender again and connected on a floater in the paint to pull within five of the Garnet.Â
Over the next five minutes, McDaniel's defense dug in and controlled the potent Swarthmore offense. Guards
Carter Truby and
Charles Contee sunk three-pointers to stay in striking distance. The Garnet responded with five straight points from senior guard Vinny Deangelo who led all scorers with 22 points.Â
With three minutes left in the half, freshman guard
Christian Taylor spotted up on the three-point line and received a pass from
Jahdel Darego.
Taylor converted the triple and cut the Swarthmore lead to six.
Swarthmore kept their offense running on all cylinders as the second half began. They built up a 20-point lead with 12 minutes elapsed in the half. McDaniel attempted to make a comeback with a pair of free-throws from
Darego and a deep three-pointer from
David Smoot to draw within 17.Â
The Garnet were able to maintain the lead the rest of the way and beat McDaniel 84-60.
The Green Terror return to action on Wednesday at Gettysburg. The tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
