BALTIMORE, Md. - Johns Hopkins built a 10-point halftime lead and continued to add to it in the second half as the ninth-ranked Blue Jays posted a 72-52 victory Wednesday inside Goldfarb Gymnasium.
The Green Terror (8-11, 4-9 CC) got on the board early with a layup from sophomore
Russell Dandridge before freshman
Jonas Sujeta, who assisted on the first basket, scored his first two points off a pass from junior
Carter Truby.
Johns Hopkins connected on multiple three-pointers to maintain its small lead over the Green Terror for the first 10 minutes. The Blue Jays shot 52 percent from the floor in the first half and were 9-of-18 from three-point range.
With 11:54 left in the half, freshman
Christian Taylor went to the line and converted a pair of free throws to pull McDaniel within two and after another Hopkins triple, Sujeta tallied his second assist of the night to a cutting Dandridge to keep the deficit at two with under seven minutes remaining in the half.
From that point forward, the Blue Jays (17-3, 11-2 CC) were able to build a double-digit lead heading into the break.
Johns Hopkins kept its offensive rhythm in the second half, stretching the lead to 13 after a Tom Quarry free throw. Sujeta responded with a layup and converted a three-point play to keep McDaniel within striking distance before
Dandridge finished at the rim to cut the Green Terror deficit to six, but that would be as close as the Green Terror would get.
Sujeta finished with 14 points to lead McDaniel while Taylor added a career-high 12 points.
The Green Terror return to action on Saturday when they host Muhlenberg at the Gill Center beginning at 3 p.m.
