WESTMINSTER, Md. - Highlighted by a commanding win over Marymount (VA) and a tightly contested victory against Messiah, the McDaniel College men's wrestling team swept both matches of the Green Terror Tri Saturday inside the Gill Center.
The Green Terror (4-0) remained unbeaten in four dual matches this season, including three at home.
In a 52-3 victory over Marymount (VA) in the opener, McDaniel posted its largest margin of victory and scored its most points in a dual match since Nov. 18, 2018 when the team beat Penn State-Mont Alto, 58-0.
The Green Terror had a perfect match going though the 165 pounds as they led 36-0 behind six falls, including four in the first round. Freshman
Connor Bollinger picked up his third fall of the season in under one minute as he pinned Temuujin Erdenetuya in 39 seconds. It was Bollinger's second-fastest fall of the season after he beat Elizabethtown's Domenic Rodriguez in 38 seconds a week ago at the Blue Jay Classic.
Graduate student
Dalton Pearl posted a 17-6 major decision at 174 pounds before the Saints (1-7) picked up their lone win when Rylan Moose edged out a 4-2 decision at 184 pounds. Moose is currently ranked fourth in the Southeast Region by the National Wrestling Coaches Association.
Senior
Jaedyn Harris and freshman
Kaden Bryan each recorded a fall at 197 pounds and heavyweight, respectively, as McDaniel won nine of the 10 matches, including eight by fall.
In an evenly matched contest against the Falcons (2-4), each team won five of the 10 matches with Harris' 18-3 tech fall over Sawyer Dereszynski at 197 securing the win for the Green Terror.
After Tyler Ratledge gave the visitors an early 3-0 lead with a 19-13 decision at 125 pounds, McDaniel won the next four matches, including two with bonus points. Senior
Alex DuFour earned a 12-4 major decision at 133 before Bollingher picked up his second first-quarter fall of the day in 1:23 at 141.
The Green Terror would stake themselves to a 16-3 lead after a 6-1 decision at 157 by junior
Xavier Howard. However, keyed by a 13-4 major decision by the nation's 12th-ranked wrestler, Zach Needles at 165, Messiah would win the next three to tie the match at 16-16.
Harris would put McDaniel back in front by five, 21-16, before Bryan avoided a fall at heavyweight, narrowly falling to Hayden Benner, 4-2, to provide the final margin.
Ryder Slayton, ranked third in the Southeast Region at 184 pounds, was the lone Falcon out of five who are regionally ranked, to compete against the Green Terror. Slayton posted a 3-0 decision over junior
Val Pryor, who faced two of the Southeast Region's top four wrestlers in Moose and Slayton.
McDaniel will take a break for finals and the Christmas holiday before returning to action on Saturday, Jan. 6 at 2:30 p.m. at New Jersey City.
