Carter Truby scored a career-high 19 points to lead the McDaniel College men's basketball team to a 65-53 victory over host Centenary in the Cyclone Holiday Classic Friday at John M. Reeves Student Recreation Center.
The Green Terror (5-4) have won three of their last four and improved to 4-1 in non-conference contests this season.
Truby tied his career-high with 19 points, equaling his output set in a 75-72 win against Bryn Athyn at home on Nov. 17, 2021. He also set a career-high with five three-pointers as he was 5-of-6 from three-point range.
Truby, who began his college career just 35 miles west at Drew University, scored 13 of his 19 points in the second half in his first game back in the Garden State since March 13, 2021 as a member of the Rangers.
Centenary (2-10) scored the game's first five points before McDaniel answered with the next 10, taking the lead for good on a three-pointer by sophomore
Jonas Sujeta with 14:27 left in the first half.
The visitors led by as many as 14 with 3:53 remaining following a layup by sophomore
David Kearney before taking a 34-25 halftime lead behind seven points each from Sujeta and senior
Jeong Hwang.
Similar to the first half, the Cyclones scored the first nine points of the second to tie the game at 34-34 with 16:30 to play.
Leading 48-45 with 8:10 left, McDaniel scored 11 of the next 14 points, including five from Truby to push its lead to 13 with just over four minutes remaining.
Kearney finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds to post his third double double this season while senior
Chuck Contee added 10 points and four rebounds. Sujeta just missed his second double double this season and fifth of his career with eight points and eight rebounds.
Junior
Lorin Hall totaled five points, five rebounds and five assists.
The Green Terror will face William Paterson in Saturday's championship game at 5 p.m. The Pioneers defeated Penn State Abington in Friday's first game, 71-69.
