Women Hold Off Late Push From Ursinus in 62-58 Victory

WESTMINSTER, Md. - The McDaniel College women's basketball team used a 10-2 run late in the fourth quarter to hold off a late Ursinus rally en route to a 62-58 Centennial Conference victory Saturday on Rebecca L. Martin Court.

The Green Terror (6-2, 2-2 CC), who are off to their best start since the 2015-16 season when the team started 7-1 and 4-0 in the Centennial Conference, won their second-straight league game and improved to 4-1 at home this season.

Junior Lil Overcash set a new career high in points for the second time this season, totaling 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting while adding three assists. She totaled nine points in the second half and five in the fourth quarter. Sophomore Elaina Beckett had 12 points and seven rebounds while freshman Teya McConnaha added eight points and a game-high nine rebounds.

McDaniel led by as many as 19 points with 3:39 remaining in the second quarter before holding a 35-20 advantage at halftime. The Bears would cut the lead to two, 45-43, at the end of the third quarter, after outscoring the Green Terror, 23-10 in the quarter. The visitors were 10-of-16 from the floor and scored 16 of their 23 points in the paint while limiting McDaniel to just 5-of-14 shooting.

Ursinus (5-2, 2-2 CC) trailed by one, 49-48, following a three-pointer by Alison Lisanti with 6:14 remaining in the fourth. However, the Green Terror would push its advantage back to nine with 2:34 to play after a 10-2 run in which Beckett and freshman Raegan Lenz each scored four points.

The Bears responded with eight of the next 10 points to pull within three with 26 seconds left, but junior Peyton Tague hit the second of two free throws with 21 seconds remaining to push the lead to four and secure their fourth win in five home games this season.

Tague finished with eight points, three rebounds and five assists while Lenz added six points and six rebounds.

McDaniel has the week off before returning to action at home next Saturday, Dec. 9 against Franklin & Marshall. Tip-off is at 1 p.m.
