Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Lenz, Beckett Lead McDaniel to Eighth Win, 59-47 at Hood

FREDERICK, Md. - Freshman Raegan Lenz totaled 19 points and eight rebounds while sophomore Elaina Beckett posted her third double double as the McDaniel College women's basketball team closed out 2023 with a 59-47 win at Hood Tuesday.

The Green Terror (8-2) are off to their best start to a season since 2015-16 when they started 9-2. The team's eight wins are its most before the new year since the 2014-15 season when the team began with eight-straight wins en route to a 24-4 overall record.

Lenz scored 12 of her 19 points in the second half, including eight in the fourth quarter as McDaniel led by as many as 15 after the Blazers (0-8) cut their deficit to eight.

After missing the Franklin & Marshall game on Dec. 9, Beckett totaled 14 points and 10 rebounds in her first game back since Ursinus on Dec. 2. It was the 12th double double of her career.

Following a slow start by both teams, the Green Terror led 13-8 at the end of the first quarter. Leading 13-10 with 8:45 left in the second, the visitors scored 12 consecutive points to take a 15-point lead with 4:44 remaining. Seven different players scored in the quarter for McDaniel who led 31-18 at halftime.

The Green Terror led by as many as 19 in the third, 41-22, after a layup by Lenz. Lenz and Beckett combined for 10 of the team's 12 third-quarter points as the team led, 43-34.

After Hood opened the scoring in the fourth on a made free throw to cut the lead to 43-35 before McDaniel used a 12-5 run to extend its lead to 15, 55-40, with 4:16 to play. Lenz, Beckett and freshman Teya McConnaha combined to score all 12 points, each netting four.

Junior Lil Overcash finished with nine points, three rebounds and four assists while McConnaha had six points, five rebounds and two assists. Freshman Ally Mathias added four points and six rebounds in a career-high 13 minutes.

McDaniel will look to match the 2015-16 team with a ninth win in its first 11 games when it travels to Bryn Mawr on Saturday, Jan. 6. That year, the Green Terror also improved to 9-2 with a 73-32 win over the Owls at home.
