McDaniel Falls at Hopkins in Centennial Semifinals Rematch

BALTIMORE, Md. - Katie Sullivan scored in the 65th minute to lead No. 9 Johns Hopkins to a 1-0 win over the McDaniel College women's soccer team Friday night at Homewood Field in the Centennial Conference semifinals.

The Green Terror (11-3-5) suffered their first loss in the last 12 games as they squared off against the Blue Jays in the conference tournament for the fifth time in the last eight years.

After posting a 1-0 win at home on Oct. 25, McDaniel was looking to become the first Centennial Conference team to beat the Blue Jays twice in the same season since 2004.

The second-seeded Blue Jays (14-2-2) out-shot the Green Terror 18-5 and held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Sullivan netted her league-leading 14th goal of the season and her sixth game-winning goal. She collected a feed along the sideline, dribbled to the middle of the field and sent a low, left-footed shot from 20 yards out just inside the near post.

Sullivan was held scoreless for just the fourth time this season in the first meeting between the two teams. She has scored at least one point in 14 out of 18 games this season while tallying a goal in 11.

Junior Lauren Hoolahan finished with three saves for McDaniel while counterpart Eva Breiland also had three, all of which came in the first half as Hopkins held a 10-3 edge in shots.

McDaniel fell to 0-17-1 at Homewood Field since 1992.

The Blue Jays will host the conference championship game on Sunday against Franklin & Marshall after the fourth-seeded Diplomats upset top-seeded Swarthmore in the other semifinal Friday night, 1-0.

The Green Terror, seeded fourth in the NCAA Region V rankings, will now wait to see if they are selected as an at-large team to the 2023 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship on Monday. The selection show will be broadcast on NCAA.com at 1 p.m.
