Third Quarter Carries Hopkins Past Women's Basketball, 73-50

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Johns Hopkins used a hot-shooting third quarter to blow open a five-point game en route to a 73-50 victory over the McDaniel College women's basketball team Tuesday night on Rebecca L. Martin Court.

The Green Terror (4-2, 0-2 CC) suffered their first loss in four home games this season.

Leading 31-26 at halftime, the Blue Jays (4-1, 2-0 CC) shot 68.4 percent from the floor in the third quarter, going 13-for-19, including 5-for-7 from three-point range as they outscored McDaniel, 34-14. Hopkins limited the Green Terror to just 5-of-14 shooting while forcing eight turnovers.

Junior Lil Overcash led McDaniel with 11 points and three assists while freshman Teya McConnaha had five points and a team-high seven rebounds. Freshman Reagan Lenz totaled six points, five rebounds and three blocks.

The Blue Jays scored the first seven points of the game before the Green Terror rallied to within two, 10-8. Led by nine points from Kendall Dunham, Hopkins led 15-9 after one. Neither team shot the ball well as the two combined to go 7-for-24.

A three-pointer to start the second put the visitors ahead by nine, but McDaniel used a 17-8 run to tie the game at 26-26 following a three-point play by sophomore Jordan McLean with 1:29 remaining.

Overcash scored nine of her 11 points in the second quarter as she was 4-for-5 from the floor with one three-pointer.

The Green Terror look for their first conference win of the season on Thursday when they travel to Haverford for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
