WESTMINSTER, Md. - The McDaniel College women's basketball team rallied from a 15-point third-quarter deficit to force overtime and post a 68-64 victory over York (PA) Wednesday on Rebecca L. Martin Court.
The Green Terror (3-0) snapped a three-game losing streak against the Spartans and start the season with three consecutive wins for the first time in the last five seasons.
The last time McDaniel started 3-0 was in 2018-19 when it began the year with four-straight wins, including a 74-63 win over York on Nov. 13, 2018 which was the last time the team had beaten the Spartans before tonight.
Freshman
Teya McConnaha totaled her first career double double with 17 points and 17 rebounds. Her 17 rebounds were the most by a Green Terror since Emma Wingerd had 17 against Haverford at home on Jan. 11, 2014.
With the Green Terror trailing 61-58, junior
Lil Overcash was fouled on a three-point attempt with less than three seconds remaining. She hit the first two free throws, but missed the third before McConnaha grabbed the rebound and was fouled on the put back. After missing the first, she hit the second, sending the game to overtime.
McDaniel outscored the Spartans 7-3 in the extra period, with five of those points coming from sophomore
Jordan McLean who was 5-of-6 from the free throw line. With the Green Terror leading 65-64, she hit three of her final four attempts over the last 18 seconds, including two with four seconds left to make it a two possession game and provide the final margin.
McDaniel shot just 63 percent from the free throw line for the game, going 27-for-43, but were 11-for-17 over the final 15 minutes during the fourth quarter and overtime.
York (1-2) took its largest lead of the game, 42-27, with 6:45 left in the third quarter before the Green Terror outscored the visitors 34-19 the rest of the way to force overtime. McConnaha totaled 15 points and seven rebounds in the second half while going 7-of-10 from the free throw line. She scored 10 of the team's 19 fourth-quarter points and grabbed four rebounds.
Sophomore
Elaina Beckett finished with 19 points and eight rebounds while Overcash had 14 points, six rebounds. McLean added 10 points, five rebounds and three assists.
