WESTMINSTER, Md. - A dominant second-half performance led the McDaniel College men's basketball team to a solid home-opening victory over Notre Dame of Maryland Saturday night inside the Gill Center, 76-54.
The Green Terror (1-1) has won five-straight home openers dating back to the 2018-19 season.
The game also marked the first in the history of the men's basketball program at Notre Dame who admitted men in the fall 2023 after 127 years as primarily an all-women's undergraduate college.
Sophomore
Jonas Sujeta just missed his fourth career double double with 17 points and nine rebounds while senior
Charles Contee added 16 points, five rebounds and three assists. Sujeta scored 11 of his 17 points in the second half as McDaniel shot 60.0 percent from the floor, going 18-for-30.
The Green Terror outscored the Gators 41-24 in the second half, limiting Notre Dame to 5-of-24 shooting, including 1-of-13 from three-point range. They also out-rebounded the visitors 25-10 and scored 30 points in the paint.
For the game, McDaniel scored 48 of its 76 points in the paint and held a 51-19 advantage in rebounds.
Sophomore
David Kearney had 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the floor while adding six rebounds and four steals. Junior
Lorin Hall had eight points and six rebounds, scoring all eight points in the second half.
The Gators (0-1) jumped out to a seven-point lead in the first 11 minutes, but an 18-6 run by the Green Terror gave them a 33-28 lead that they would not relinquish.
McDaniel plays the first of back-to-back road games on Tuesday when it heads to Penn State Schuylkill for a 7 p.m. tip-off. The Green Terror beat the Nittany Lions at home a year ago, 60-55. Contee led McDaniel with 17 points.
