Jonas Sujeta and
David Kearney combined for 32 points and 13 rebounds as the McDaniel College men's basketball team posted a 64-58 victory over Penn State Schuylkill Tuesday night.
The Green Terror (2-1) picked up their first road win of the season and first in two road games against the Nitttany Lions.
Sujeta totaled a game-high 17 points to go along with six rebounds while Kearney had a career-high 16 points and seven rebounds. The two combined to go 11-for-18 from the floor and 6-of-8 from the free throw line.
Senior
Chuck Contee totaled nine points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals.
McDaniel led 31-15 at halftime and stretched it to as many as 16 in the second half, but a run by Penn State Schuylkill would cut the deficit to two, 50-48 with 5:09 remaining.
However, a three-pointer by Sujeta from the right corner off an assist from Kearney gave the Green Terror a 55-50 lead with 3:52 to play.
Two free throws by sophomore
Kevin Connelly and two offensive rebounds and layups by Kearney on consecutive trips down the floor extended the lead to eight with just over one minute remaining, 61-53.
The Nittany Lions (0-3) were able to keep it close thanks to scoring 17 points off 14 McDaniel turnovers and going 22-of-27 from the free throw line.
The Green Terror tied a season high with nine three-pointers, equaling the mark they set at Waynesburg in the season opener. Sujeta scored 12 of his 17 points from three-point range, going 4-for-6.
McDaniel will have six days before returning to action next Tuesday, Nov. 21 when it opens Centennial Conference play at Dickinson. Tip-off is at 8 p.m.
