CARLISLE, Pa. - A late first-half goal proved to be the difference for Dickinson as it posted a 2-1 Centennial Conference victory over the McDaniel College men's soccer team Saturday at Miller Memorial Field.
The Green Terror (3-4-4, 1-4-0 CC) were limited to just three shots, including one on goal as they dropped their fourth-straight game after starting the season unbeaten in their first seven.
The Red Devils scored 7:59 into the contest on the fifth goal of the season by Saul Iwowo, but McDaniel responded just 1:17 later as sophomore
AJ Nordone netted his team-leading fifth goal on the year on a feed from freshman
AJ Reta.
With the ball near the midfield stripe, junior
Jared Edge stepped up and took the ball away from Dickinson before chipping it to Reta down the far side. Reta blew past his defender and sent a low cross into the box as Nordone darted towards the middle of the box while cutting off his defender as the cross came towards him.
Nordone has scored all five of his goals during the team's last six games. He has accounted for five of the team's seven goals since Sept. 16.
After the opening moments, the game settled down a bit with Dickinson (6-3-2, 1-2-2 CC) having two other chances. Graduate studentÂ
Austin Heid made the save both times to keep the game tied at 1-1.
However, the Red Devils broke through with a goal from Mack Moore in the 35th minute to retake the lead before halftime.
Coming out of the break, the Green Terror struggled to create offense against a stout Dickinson defense. Heid stopped the only Red Devil shot in the second half before freshman
Chase Osborn ripped a shot that went wide in the 88th minute.
McDaniel continues its three-game road trip on Tuesday with a non-conference contest at Hood beginning at 6 p.m.
