Wilson Edges Field Hockey in Breast Cancer Awareness Game

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Paige Ney scored the game's lone goal with just 2:32 remaining in the first half to lead Wilson to a 1-0 non-conference win over the McDaniel College field hockey team on Friday at Gill Stadium.

The Green Terror (2-9) out-shot the Phoenix and held a large advantage in penalty corners, but could not find the equalizer in the second half despite a dominant fourth quarter.

Both teams had just three shots through the first three quarters before a busy fourth quarter that saw McDaniel hold a 6-3 margin in shots and a 7-3 advantage in penalty corners. However, the Green Terror managed just three shots on goal, two of which were saved by Allyson Shindler. The third shot was turned away by Jill Ahlgren who recorded her first defensive save of the season.

Freshman Lora Scarangello made six saves to lead McDaniel who limited Wilson (6-4) to just six shots. Junior Tenley Pelot totaled three shots while senior Yeseniah Ortiz added two as the Green Terror out-shot the Phoenix, 9-6.

Ney scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season on Wilson's lone shot of the second quarter when she gathered a loose ball in front and snuck it past Scarangello inside the left post.

Eight of McDaniel's 11 games this season have been decided by two goals or less. Friday marked the fourth one-goal affair for the Green Terror.

Today marked McDaniel's Breast Cancer Awareness game. In support of the fight against breast cancer, fans are encouraged to donate to the Carroll Hospital Foundation's Pink Fling on behalf of McDaniel College field hockey. Donations can be made here.

The Green Terror return to action next Wednesday, Oct. 11 when they travel to Gettysburg for a 4 p.m. matchup with the Bullets. Four of McDaniel's final six regular-season games are on the road.
