Legacy Scores Third Goal in 3-1 Loss to Dickinson

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Senior Emma Legacy scored her team-leading third goal of the season as the McDaniel College field hockey team dropped a 3-1 Centennial Conference contest to Dickinson Wednesday night at Gill Stadium.

Legacy has scored three of the nine goals this season for the Green Terror (2-8, 0-4 CC) who held an 11-10 advantage in penalty corners.

Freshman Lora Scarangello finished with six saves as she faced 17 shots, including seven in the first quarter as the Red Devils' Ella Krenzer scored with 4:29 remaining off a rebound in front following a save by Scarangello.

Dickinson (4-6, 2-2 CC) quickly added a second goal to start the second quarter when Alexandra Hockwitt scored on a loose ball rebound off an assist from Nicole Uebele. Uebele took a shot off a penalty corner that went wide before Hockwitt corralled it and snuck it over the line for what proved to be the game-winning goal.

The Red Devils led 2-0 at halftime after holding a 10-4 edge in shots. They capitalized on second-chance opportunities for their advantage as McDaniel out-shot the visitors 4-3 in the second quarter and held a 6-1 margin in penalty corners. However, three of the team's four shots were blocked in front and the fourth was wide.

Neither team found the back of the cage in the third as they combined for only two shots. The Green Terror held another large margin in corners, 5-1, but generated just one shot that was saved by Dickinson's Olivia Renault who entered in the relief of starter Taylor Schlein.

The Red Devils had the momentum in the fourth, out-shooting McDaniel 6-1 and earning all five penalty corners in the quarter. Abby Marthins scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season with under 10 minutes remaining on a pass from Sammi Moonay off a corner.

Legacy would get the Green Terror on the board when she dribbled in from the right before slotting the ball past Renault near side on the team's lone shot of the quarter with 42 seconds left

Legacy leads the team with three goals and seven points this season, both career highs.

McDaniel returns to action on Friday when it hosts a non-conference contest versus Wilson beginning at 4 p.m. for the team's Breast Cancer Awareness game. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to show support in the fight against breast cancer and to donate to the Carroll Hospital Foundation's Pink Fling on behalf of McDaniel College field hockey.
