Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

First Half Carries Haverford Past Men's Basketball

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Despite outscoring the Fords in the second half, McDaniel could not overcome the early deficit falling to Haverford 64-52.

The first 10 minutes of the game, were a back-and-forth defensive struggle with both teams unable to attack the other consistently. Senior Carter Truby scored seven of the first 10 points for the Green Terror (8-10, 4-8 CC) including a pair of three-pointers. The Fords (7-12, 5-7 CC) kept pace with multiple buckets from forward Harry Johnson. With McDaniel leading 12-11 at the 14-minute mark, Haverford went on a run, building the lead up to as many as 13 points with a deep trifecta from Josh Love.

McDaniel junior Charles Contee tried to bring McDaniel back in the game with back-to-back baskets, but another deep three-pointer from Nicholas Stewart stretched the lead back out to 14.

The Green Terror responded in the second half, by immediately cutting the lead to single-digits. Freshman Jonas Sujeta, who led the team with 12 points, hit a floater in the lane, then followed that up with a pair of free throws.

At the 15:48 mark in the second half, freshman Christian Taylor checked into the game and immediately provided a spark to the McDaniel offense. He intercepted a pass near half court and finished at the rim, drawing the foul, and converted the free-throw for the three-point play. With five minutes to play, and McDaniel trailing by seven, Taylor scored twice in the paint to draw within three.

Sophomore Russell Dandridge drew a foul and made a pair of free-throws to pull within one point of the Fords with 3:24 remaining. The Fords responded with the next five points, to pull away from McDaniel and were able to connect on their shots at the line late for the 64-52 win.

McDaniel returns to action on Wednesday at Johns Hopkins. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 P.M.
