Men's Basketball Edged by Dickinson In Overtime, 71-68

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Martin Mann scored seven of his game-high 29 points in overtime as Dickinson outlasted the McDaniel College men's basketball team, 71-68 Thursday night at the Gill Center.

For the second time this season, the Green Terror (8-9, 4-7 CC) and Red Devils needed overtime to decide a winner after McDaniel posted a 58-52 victory at the Kline Center back on Nov. 22 in the Centennial Conference opener for both teams.

Five of the last seven meetings in the series have been decided by six points or less.

Thursday's game featured 13 ties and 19 lead changes, including five ties and 11 lead changes in the second half. However, Dickinson scored six of their 10 points in overtime from the free throw line which proved to be just enough as the Green Terror were 2-of-12 from the floor.

After a layup by junior Charles Contee pulled McDaniel within two with 16 seconds remaining in overtime, Mann hit the second of two free throws while the Green Terror missed their final two shot attempts in the final six seconds.

With the game tied at 35-35, the Red Devils (4-14, 2-9 CC) used a 7-0 run to take the largest lead of the game, but McDaniel would battle back to take a 49-48 lead on a hook shot in the paint by junior Jahdel Darego with 8:53 left in regulation.

From there, neither team would lead by more than three as there were two ties and five lead changes, the last of which came when Dickinson's Skyler Venezia gave the visitors a 61-59 advantage with 12 seconds remaining.

On the ensuing possession, sophomore Lorin Hall was fouled on a pull-up jumper at the foul line with three seconds to play before hitting both free throws to tie the game for the 13th time and send it to overtime.

In the first meeting between the two teams, Hall also sent the game to overtime when he grabbed a defensive rebound and drove coast-to-coast and scored on a driving layup with two seconds left.

Hall finished with 13 points and was one of four Green Terror in double figures. Senior Carter Truby led the team with a season-high 15 points, including 13 in the first half as McDaniel led 29-28 at the half. Truby also had six rebounds and two of the team's six steals. Contee and Darego each had 10 points while Darego added eight rebounds and two blocks.

Dickinson scored 20 points off 19 Green Terror turnovers and were 22-of-35 from the free throw line compared to 14-of-17 for McDaniel.

The Green Terror host Haverford on Saturday at 2 p.m. on Alumni Day. The alumni game will take place prior and a complimentary reception for alumni will be held in conjunction with the game.
