COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Ursinus used a late second half run to pull away from the McDaniel College men's basketball team in a Centennial Conference matchup Saturday at Hellferich Hall, 81-62.
The Green Terror (7-8, 4-6 CC) were led by 16 points from freshman
Jonas Sujeta and 11 from junior
Jeong Hwang, one shy of his career high. However, it wasn't enough against a potent Ursinus offense that had four players in double figures and shot 50% from three-point range.
Hwang opened up the scoring with a deep three-pointer off an assist from junior
Charles Contee before the Bears countered with points from five different players, including back-to-back triples.
Ursinus (11-6, 6-4 CC) led 23-8 with 11 minutes left in the half when Hwang grabbed a defensive rebound and pushed the ball down court, finding junior
David Smoot open from deep to spark a McDaniel run that closed its deficit to four.
Contee tallied one of his three assists on a bucket from Sujeta as the half drew to a close with the Bears leading 39-33.
McDaniel began the second half with a mid-range basket from senior
Carter Truby. With the Green Terror down by three, Hwang came up with a steal and finished at the other end. Ryan Murphy responded with a layup for the Bears, but Hwang got past his defender again and cut into the Ursinus lead once again.
From there, Ursinus connected on multiple three-pointers to expand its lead and McDaniel was unable to close the gap as the half continued.
McDaniel travels to Christendom on Monday for its final non-conference contest of the season. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.
