WESTMINSTER, Md. - Washington College shot 67 percent from the floor in the fourth quarter and held the McDaniel College women's basketball team to just 24 percent and 13 points in a 62-52 victory Wednesday on Rebecca L. Martin Court.
The Green Terror (6-9, 4-6 CC) were led by senior
Josey Klingenberg totaled her first double double of the season and third of her career with 10 points and 10 rebounds. It was her first career double double in points and rebounds. She also added three assists and five steals.
The game featured five ties and six lead changes with the Shorewomen (11-6, 7-4 CC) holding a 41-39 advantage after three quarters.
Washington scored the first three baskets to start the fourth and led 47-39 with 7:13 remaining. It stretched the lead to 12 with 3:36 to play after holding McDaniel to just 1-of-10 shooting while forcing four turnovers.
Back-to-back baskets by freshman
Jordan McLean and two free throws by Klingenberg cut the deficit in half, 54-48, but the Shorewomen managed to protect the lead, going 4-for-4 from the free throw line with a three-point play in the final 1:26.
McLean finished with seven points in just 15 minutes before fouling out. Freshman
Elaina Beckett totaled 12 points and eight rebounds while graduate student
Meggie Burgess had five points and six rebounds.
Washington outscored the Green Terror, 33-19, in the first and fourth quarters, going 14-for-27 from the floor while McDaniel was 5-for-30.
The Green Terror outrebounded the Shorewomen, 43-32, which included 19 offensive rebounds that led to 16 second-chance points.
McDaniel begins a three-game road trip on Saturday when the team travels to Ursinus. Beckett and senior
Mallory Conroy combined for 37 points as the Green Terror posted a 47-45 victory over Ursinus on Dec. 3. Tip-off is at 3 p.m.
