Contee, Hwang Lead Men's Basketball in Loss at Haverford

HAVERFORD, Pa. - Haverford used a 7-0 run midway through the first half and never trailed again as the Fords posted a 76-48 victory over the McDaniel College men's basketball team Tuesday at Gooding Arena.

The Green Terror (5-6, 2-4 CC) were led by 14 points and five rebounds from junior Charles Contee and a career-high 12 points from junior Jeong Hwang as the duo combined to go 3-of-6 from three-point range and 9-of-10 from the free throw line.

The game featured two ties and three lead changes in the first six minutes with a three-pointer from Contee tying the game at 12-12. However, the Fords scored the game's next seven points while holding McDaniel scoreless for over six minutes to take a 19-12 lead with less than eight minutes remaining in the first half.

Two free throws by Contee and a layup by senior Carter Truby pulled the Green Terror back within three, but a 10-0 run pushed the Haverford lead to 13 with 2:38 to play.

The Fords (4-9, 2-4 CC) led by 16 at halftime, 37-21, after shooting 54.2 percent from the floor while holding McDaniel to just 26.9 percent.

During its three-game losing streak, the Green Terror have trailed by at least 16 points at the break after their opponents shot 50.0 percent or better from the floor while totaling 19 three-pointers.

McDaniel fared a little better in the second half, but Haverford continued its hot shooting, making 56 percent of its attempts, including 6-of-12 from three-point range.

Playing without their leading rebounder in freshman Jonas Sujeta, the Fords out-rebounded the Green Terror 36-25 with 28 of those boards coming on the defensive end. Contee led McDaniel with five rebounds while sophomore Russell Dandridge added four in his first career start.

McDaniel returns home to face Johns Hopkins on Thursday. Tip-off inside the Gill Center is at 8 p.m.
