WESTMINSTER, Md. - McDaniel College field hockey junior
Yeseniah Ortiz scored in the final round of the shootout to give the Green Terror a 1-0 victory over Randolph-Macon Saturday night at Gill Stadium.
McDaniel (2-0) has started the season with consecutive victories for the second-straight season. They also have posted back-to-back shutouts for the first time since Oct. 27, 2005 when the team defeated Haverford, 5-0, just one day after beating Johns Hopkins, 4-0.
The game was scoreless through four quarters and two overtime periods as both junior
Mikayla Smith and Kelsey Seiler earned a shutout, combining for 18 saves. Smith totaled 12 saves, one shy of her career high set at Haverford on Sept. 25, 2021. She also played a career-best 80 minutes.
Defensively, the Green Terror staved off 10 shots and eight penalty corners over the third and fourth quarters while Smith stopped all four Yellow Jacket shots in the second overtime to send the game to a shootout.
McDaniel returns to action on Wednesday when they make the short trip to Stevenson for a 7 p.m. match-up against the Mustangs.
