LeChard, Witzel Capitalize in Conference Win Over Gettysburg

WESTMINSTER, Md. - The Green Terror scored just before the break, and early in the second half to beat the Bullets at home.

Early in the first half, McDaniel (3-2-2, 2-0 CC) and Gettysburg (2-3-1, 1-1-0 CC) played near the midfield stripe. Both defenses closed down passing lanes and pressured the ball all over the field. In the seventh minute of action junior Elaina Kluttz created an opening at the top of the box and took a shot that went wide.

A few minutes later, Gettysburg looked to convert their first scoring opportunity, but graduate student Katherine Carstensen stepped up and made the save.

McDaniel took one other shot in the first 44 minutes, but continued to press the attack. In the 44th minute, junior Allison Storm lined up one of nine corner kicks. The ball landed in the box and deflected out to the edge of the box. Sophomore Elizabeth LeChard back pedaled towards the ball, she turned and launched the ball past the Bullets goalkeeper for the first goal of the game as time expired.

The Green Terror kept up the momentum as the second half began. Senior Taylor Clawson and sophomore Olivia Moskunas each took a pair of shots in the first ten minutes of the final period.

In the 60th minute, Storm lined up another corner kick and sent it into the box. Sophomore Jessica Weinoldt lept up and headed the ball to Moskunas at the top of the box. She took a shot with her right foot off the bounce and sent it toward the keeper. Freshman Abby Witzel redirected the shot at the six yard line to the right of the keeper and McDaniel had a 2-0 lead.

McDaniel's defense held firm the rest of the way as graduate student Jules Dotterweich and Senior Kiersten Crowley kept the Bullets offense in check. Crowley forced multiple turnovers and kept pushing the back line up to keep the ball in Gettysburg territory.

After the second goal, the Green Terror defense gave up just two shots the rest of the way. Carstensen recorded her second save in the 82nd minute, and McDaniel secured their second conference win of the year.

McDaniel returns to action on Saturday at Bryn Mawr. The match begins at 12 P.M.
