Velasquez, Weinoldt Lead Women to 6-1 Win at Muhlenberg

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - McDaniel College opened Centennial Conference play with a convincing 6-1 road at Muhlenberg on Saturday.

The first half began with the Green Terror pressing the attack. In the 15th minute, senior Taylor Clawson beat her defender down the right side of the field. As she entered the box, she played a low cross in front of the goal to a cutting Elizabeth LeChard who finished it to break the deadlock.

The Green Terror (2-2-2, 1-0-0 CC) continued to keep possession and create opportunities in the attacking third. Sophomore Jessica Weinoldt corralled the ball at midfield in the 27th minute and started to attack up the middle. Taylor Clawson found an opening in the defense and received the pass from Weinoldt. She connected for her second goal of the season to give McDaniel a 2-0 lead at the break.

McDaniel continued to attack the Mules defense to start the second half. Elizabeth LeChard stepped back to attempt a throw-in and found Weinoldt posted up just outside the box. After controlling the throw, Weinoldt used a quick first step to beat her defender. After creating space, she blasted a shot with her right foot into the top corner of the goal that gave the Green Terror a 3-0 lead.

Weinoldt converted again in the 70th minute off a penalty kick before Muhlenberg returned the favor with a penalty kick by Eliana Nelson-Levy to put the Mules on the board in the 76th minute.

In the final 12 minutes, McDaniel junior Keyla Velasquez notched a pair of goals, including a beautiful finish with her left foot after beating the Mules defender at the top of the box. Sydney Lewis tallied an assist on the final goal as the Green Terror out-shot Muhlenberg, 21-8.

McDaniel returns to action on Wednesday at home against Gettysburg. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
