SALISBURY, Md. - McDaniel College field hockey junior
Mikayla Smith tied her career high with 13 saves as the Green Terror fell on the road at No. 6 Salisbury Saturday night at Sea Gull Stadium.
The Green Terror (4-2) surrendered two goals in the game's first eight minutes and two in the last eight.
Smith, who also had a career-high 13 saves at Haverford on Sept. 25, 2021, totaled six saves over the second and third quarters as McDaniel held the Sea Gulls scoreless. Senior
Amanda Sponaugle also had a defensive save in the third quarter, the team's first of the season.
Salisbury (6-0) scored the game's first goal just 1:18 into the game when Allie Davis scored her team-leading seventh of the season off an assist from McKenzie Mitchell.
Six minutes later, Emma Jeffries notched her first of the year to double the lead before Mitchell found Mack Dinopoulos with just 31 seconds remaining in the opening quarter to give the Sea Gulls a 3-0 advantage.
Despite being out-shot 11-1, the Green Terror did not allow another goal over the next 30 minutes as the margin remained at three.
Mitchell picked up her fourth point of the game with her fifth goal of the season with 7:19 to play in the fourth before McKenzie Jacobson capped the scoring with her first goal of the year on a feed from Dinopoulos with less than four minutes left.
McDaniel returns to action next Saturday, Sept. 24 when it begins Centennial Conference play at home against Haverford. Game time is at 1 p.m. inside Gill Stadium.
