ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - The McDaniel College volleyball team competed with Eastern in a tightly-contested first set, but could not keep pace over the next two before falling in three.
McDaniel (1-4) took an early 7-5 lead over the Eagles in their home tournament. Eastern tied it back up at seven, but sophomore
Kathy Taveras connected with freshman
Jayda Patterson who found an opening to retake the lead. Eastern responded with a six-point run of their own. After a kill by Eagles Kaylyn Zeigler, McDaniel found its offense and six-straight points that ended with a well-placed service ace by freshman
Samantha Fadel.
However, the Eagles (5-2) scored three of the next four to take the first set, 25-21.
The Eagles continued their early success by jumping out to a seven-point lead in the second set. Freshman
Kailey Young put McDaniel on the board off a pass from junior
Tatiana Hamilton, but McDaniel could not find a groove offensively and fell 25-6. In the third set, McDaniel tried to rally, but could not overcome the potent Eastern offense.
Kathy Taveras led the Green Terror with 12 digs on the afternoon, but the Eagles were able to take control and won the third and final set 25-5.
McDaniel returns to action next Saturday at Swarthmore to open up Centennial Conference play. Match time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
