SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Green Terror opened up the season on the road against the Garnet. McDaniel battled in the first set, but Swarthmore pulled away to win in straight sets.
Swarthmore (7-2, 1-0 CC) jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first set. McDaniel (1-5, 0-1 CC) found its footing and and rattled off three straight points. The Garnet's setter Dani Pena came back with a trio of assists and Swarthmore retook the lead 7-3. Freshman
Mackenzie Mitchell connected on one of her team leading seven kills as the Green Terror battled back to pull within one point. After another run by Swarthmore, the Green Terror trailed by eight. Sophomore
Allyson Burgee went up and blockeda Garnet attack to cut the lead to six, but that is as close as McDaniel came. Swarthmore won the first set 25-15.
Swarthmore carried over their momentum into the second set taking a 19-4 lead. Junior
Nia Roberts recorded a pair of kills from junior
Lauren Guyer, but McDaniel could not find a rhythm and the Garnet took the second set 25-9. The third set went back-and-forth with kills by
Nia Roberts and
Mackenzie Mitchell. The Garnet led 13-10, and pushed the lead to seven with a kill by Kaylee Zhang.Â
Swarthmore pulled away to win the third set 25-16.
McDaniel returns to action on on Wednesday at home against Mary Washington. The game starts at 7 P.M.
