THE SKINNY
McDaniel had a pair of placewinners at the 2022 Centennial Conference wrestling championship hosted by Johns Hopkins. The Green Terror placed seventh as a team with 20 points.
THE LEADERS
• Michael Bromley (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore) led the Green Terror with a second-place finish at 174. The second seed opened his day with a 9-3 win over Ursinus' Noah Supsic before topping Washington and Lee's Cameron Blizard 9-2 in the semifinals. The seeds held in the finals with Johns Hopkins' Joe Paul topping Bromley 3-1 in the title tilt.
• Jaedyn Harris (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) finished third at 197. He opened his day with a 5-3 victory over the Generals' John Ryan Sedovy in the first sudden victory period before falling to top seed and eventual champion Luca Colestock (Muhlenberg) 5-3 in the semifinals. In the consolation semis, Harris defeated the Blue Jays' Will Shiber by technical fall 20-2 to advance to the third-place bout, where he edged Sedovy for the second time on the day, 3-2.
FOR THE FOES
• Washington and Lee won the team title with 97 points behind four individual champions. Johns Hopkins, which had individual champions, placed second with 87 points.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• Joe McKneely (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus) won his opening bout at 141 by a 7-3 margin over Muhlenberg's Chris Dalmau. Top seed and eventual champion then topped McKneely 16-1 in the semifinals. Yosef Ellis-Rech (Johns Hopkins) topped McKneely 7-2 in the consolation semifinals.
• Alex LaVeck (Reisterstown, Md./McDonogh) dropped his first-round bout at 165. The fourth seed was pinned by Ursinus' Jacob Folk in 2:25 before earning a 2-minute, 9-second fall over Ronnie Grevers (Muhlenberg) in the first round of wrestlebacks. Washington and Lee's Joe Salerno defeated LaVeck 5-0 in the consolation semis on his way to a third-place finish.
• At 184, Valentino Pryor (Odenton, Md./Arundel) was pinned by eventual champion Gary Nagle (Ursinus) in the first period of the opening round. Pryor then recorded a 9-2 win over Muhlebnerg's Deon Savage before a second-period fall to top-seed Brad Basham (Washington and Lee) ended Pryor's day.
