WESTMINSTER, Md. - McDaniel College men's basketball junior
Charles Contee totaled a game and career-high 19 points, but Ursinus shot 50 percent from the floor and made 10 three-pointers in a 67-57 victory Saturday inside the Gill Center.
The loss was the first in four games at home for the Green Terror (4-3, 2-1 CC) this season.
The team's leading scorer this season, Contee also added eight rebounds, one shy of his career high, while sophomore
Russell Dandridge added a career-high 11 points. He was 4-of-5 from the floor and 3-of-4 from the free throw line.
McDaniel led 11-8 following a layup by Dandridge with 12:56 remaining in the first half before the Bears used a 14-0 run to take a 22-11 advantage with 5:45 to play.
Despite five-straight points from Contee to cut the deficit to four, Ursinus (6-1, 2-1 CC) would take a 31-23 lead into halftime thanks to two three-pointers from Nick Nocito.
The Bears stretched their lead to as many as 15 with 15:17 left in the second half before a jumper by Contee would pull the Green Terror within five, 50-45 with 8:28 to play.
However, that would be as close McDaniel would get as Ursinus shot 61 percent from the floor and 63 percent from three-point range. The Bears also went 7-of-9 from the free throw line in the final eight minutes.
Contee scored 11 of his 19 points in the second half while Dandridge added six.
Junior
David Smoot finished with nine points, six rebounds, three assists and two blocks while freshman
Jonas Sujeta had six points and seven rebounds.
Following a break for final exams, the Green Terror return to action with a non-conference contest at Bryn Athyn on Tuesday, Dec. 13 at 7 p.m.
