Truby Posts First Double Double in Loss at Bryn Athyn

BRYN ATHYN, Pa. - McDaniel College men's basketball senior Carter Truby posted his first career double double, but Bryn Athyn used a decisive first half en route to a 66-57 victory Tuesday night at Asplundh Field House.

The Green Terror (4-3) dropped their second-straight non-conference contest after starting the season with back-to-back wins.

Truby totaled 10 points and a career-high 10 rebounds for his first career double double. He just missed a double double with 14 points and nine rebounds in a 55-53 win over Gettysburg on Nov. 29.

Truby had eight points and five rebounds in the first half, but McDaniel was just 8-of-26 from the floor as it trailed 34-22 at halftime. Meanwhile, the Lions were 11-for-22 with five three-pointers and scored 15 points off of 11 Green Terror turnovers.

Bryn Athyn (5-3) led by just one, 21-20, with 5:57 remaining in the first half before closing the half on a 13-2 run as McDaniel missed its last seven shots and had four turnovers over the final five minutes.

The Lions stretched their lead to as many as 15 in the second half, but an 8-0 pulled the Green Terror within three, 60-57. Junior Charles Contee scored six of the team's eight points during the run as he scored 15 of his game-high 17 points in the final 20 minutes.

Contee's three-pointer with 2:54 left proved to be McDaniel's final points of the game while Bryn Athyn scored four of the last six points from the free throw line, going 4-for-4 in the final 26 seconds.

Contee finished the game with 17 points, five rebounds and six assists while sophomore Russell Dandridge notched a career high in points for the second consecutive game with 12 on 6-of-8 shooting. He had 11 against Ursinus on Dec. 3. Junior Jahdel Darego added seven points.

McDaniel will take a break for the Christmas holiday before returning to action on Friday, Dec. 30 at Saint Vincent. Tip-off is at 4 p.m.
