First Half Carries Wilson Past Men's Basketball, 62-48

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A 16-2 run midway through the first half carried Wilson to a 62-48 victory over the McDaniel College men's basketball team in a non-conference contest Saturday at Gannett Field House.

The Green Terror (2-2) lost for the first time in the last four meetings against the Phoenix dating back to a 71-66 road on Dec. 17, 2017.

Junior Charles Contee led McDaniel with a team-high 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the floor while juniors Jeong Hwang and Jahdel Darego each added nine.

With the scored tied at 14-14 midway through the first half, Wilson (2-2) used a 16-2 run to take a 14-point advantage with 3:31 remaining. During the run, the Green Terror were 1-for-6 from the floor and 0-of-3 from the free throw line with four turnovers.

The Phoenix shot 55.0 percent from the floor in the opening half and were 9-of-16 from the free throw line as they built a 12-point lead, 34-22.

McDaniel opened the second half with a 14-4 run to cut its deficit to two on a layup by Darego with 13:58 to play before Wilson scored eight consecutive points to push its lead back to 12 with 6:46 left, 51-39.

The Phoenix maintained their lead, scoring six of their final 11 points from the free throw line where they were 6-for-10 over the final six minutes and 12-for-20 in the half.

The Green Terror open Centennial Conference play on Tuesday when they travel to Dickinson. Game time is at 7 p.m.
