YORK, Pa. - Led by nine points from freshman
Bri Floyd, the McDaniel College women's basketball team scored 23 points off the bench in a 55-47 loss to York (Pa.) Wednesday night at Charles Wolf Gymnasium.
The Green Terror (1-3) rallied within six on a three-pointer by freshman
Elaina Beckett, but the Spartans had two free throws and a steal in the final 29 seconds to seal the win.
Beckett had 12 points and seven rebounds while senior
Mallory Conroy totaled six points, eight rebounds and four blocks.
York (1-3) jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the game's first five minutes and never let it slip below five the rest of the way. Both teams struggled to shoot the ball well as McDaniel shot 31.0 percent from the floor while the Spartans made just 30.0 percent of their attempts.
The two teams combined for just 38 points over the second and third quarters as they were 15-for-62 from the field for 24.2 percent.
York led 39-28 with 2:49 remaining before six-straight points by freshman
Jordan McLean and a three-pointer by Beckett cut the Green Terror deficit to six with 29 seconds left.
McLean finished with six points off the bench while graduate student
Meggie Burgess added eight. Along with Floyd, the trio accounted for all 23 points off the bench for McDaniel.
The Spartans were led by 21 points and nine rebounds from Bradi Zumbrum while Savannah Wilson added 20 points, seven rebounds and three assists.
The Green Terror return to action on Saturday when they open Centennial Conference play at Bryn Mawr. Tip-off is at 1 p.m.
