EMMITSBURG, Md. - The McDaniel College men's basketball team hung tough in an exhibition with Division I Mount St. Mary's, trailing by just six at halftime, before falling 60-38 Tuesday night at Knott Arena.
The game marked the 96th all-time meeting between the Green Terror (2-0) and Mountaineers, but the first since Feb. 6, 1975 and the first at Knott Arena.
Mount St. Mary's (1-2) scored the game's first 13 points before junior
Jeong Hwang scored seven in-a-row to cut the lead to six.
McDaniel stayed close, pulling within five, 25-20, following two free throws from junior
Charles Contee with 5:13 remaining in the first half.
Led by eight points from Hwang and five each from Contee and freshman
Christian Taylor, the Green Terror trailed by six at the half, 31-25. The Mountaineers also finished the half missing eight of its final nine shots, including five of six from three-point range.
Mount St. Mary's opened the second half on a 9-1 run as McDaniel missed their first six attempts and trailed 40-26 with 14:46 to play. The Mountaineers extended their lead to as many as 23, limiting the Green Terror to just 5-of-23 shooting.
Hwang and Taylor finished with nine points each while Contee totaled five points and seven rebounds. Freshman
Jonas Sujeta had five points and six rebounds.
McDaniel travels to Wilson for a non-conference contest against the Phoenix on Saturday. Tip-off from Chambersburg, Pa. is at 3 p.m.
