WESTMINSTER, Md. - The Green Terror battled the Red Devils in all three sets, but Dickinson pulled away late to win the match.
McDaniel got on the board early against Dickinson with kills by
Nia Roberts and
Abigail Cook. Dickinson responded with a four-point run of of their behind three aces from Grace Coccagna. With Dickinson up by one,
Tatiana Hamilton found
Mackenzie Mitchell three straight times to tie the game up at nine.Â
From there, it was a back-and-forth contest with both teams going on runs. Dickinson had a 23-18 lead, but McDaniel responded by scoring the next three points including an ace from
Samantha Fadel. Dickinson regrouped and pulled away to win the first set 25-20.
The Red Devils kept the momentum going into the second set. With a 22-11 lead, Dickinson had control, but the Green Terror rallied with a five-point run of their own. In that run three different McDaniel athletes recorded kills to close the gap to six. The Red Devils held on in the end to take the second set 25-17.
WIth Dickinson leading 16-10 in the third set, it looked like the Red Devils would cruise to a third set win. However, McDaniel responded with another five-point run behind two more aces from
Samantha Fadel to pull within one point. Dickinson was able to stretch the lead back out to 23-18.
Allyson Burgee brought the Green Terror back with a kill from
Tatiana Hamilton, and then followed that up with an ace to cut the deficit to three.Â
The Green Terror scored two more points, but couldn't close the gap and Dickinson held on to win 25-22.
McDaniel returns to action this weekend at Stevenson in a Tri-Match including Rowan. The first match against the Mustangs begins at 10 A.M.
