WESTMINSTER, Md. - McDaniel College field hockey junior
Mikayla Smith totaled seven saves as the Green Terror was edged by Gettysburg in a Centennial Conference contest Wednesday at Gill Stadium, 1-0.
For the Green Terror (5-10, 1-8 CC), the game marked the seventh out of 15 this season decided by just one goal. The team is now 4-3 in those contests.
After a scoreless first quarter in which McDaniel fought off six penalty corners, the Bullets (3-13, 1-8 CC) scored off their second penalty corner of the second quarter when Sam Woolery scored her first goal of the season off a rebound in front with 3:11 remaining.
Smith totaled three of her seven saves in the quarter as the Green Terror was out-shot, 4-1.
McDaniel held a 7-5 edge in shots in the second half, but could not get the equalizer as Emilia Saccento made four saves, stopping all four Green Terror attempts in the fourth quarter.
Freshman
Dillan Williams, who leads the team with four goals this season, totaled five of the team's 11 shots in the game, including three in the second half, but both of her fourth-quarter attempts were turned away by Saccento.
McDaniel concludes its 2022 season on Saturday when it hosts a Centennial Conference contest versus Franklin & Marshall beginning at 1 p.m. on Senior Day.
