Doff, Sponaugle Honored Against Franklin & Marshall

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Franklin & Marshall scored three goals in the second quarter en route to a 5-1 victory over the McDaniel College field hockey team Saturday at Gill Stadium on Senior Day.

Prior to the game, the Green Terror (5-11, 1-9 CC) honored seniors Abby Doff and Amanda Sponaugle in their final appearance in a McDaniel uniform.

Sponaugle scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season on a penalty stroke midway through the fourth quarter as she finished her final season with a career-high nine points. She finished her career with three goals and six points over the team's final four games.

The Diplomats (13-4, 9-1 CC) opened the scored just over eight minutes into the contest when Sophie Carroll scored the first of her two goals on the day off a rebound in front. She later added a penalty stroke to increase her team's lead to 3-0 with 9:14 remaining in the second quarter.

Keira Boensch also tallied two goals for Franklin & Marshall, including the game-winner just four minutes into the second quarter. She also scored the fifth and final goal for the Diplomats with 6:12 left in the third quarter.

Junior Mikayla Smith, who recorded her 200th career save on Wednesday versus Gettysburg, finished with five saves for the Green Terror with three in the second quarter. Sophomore Morgan Collins was credited with a defensive save in the second, but it led to Carroll's second goal on a penalty stroke.

Meanwhile, Doff got her 10th career start on Saturday while making her 26th appearance. She is a two-time NFHCA National Academic Squad selection who was also named to the Centennial Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll in 2021.

Sponugle appeared in 31 games for the Green Terror after transferring from Division II Newberry. She made 30 starts and totaled 12 points as a defender with five goals and two assists. She also made four defensive saves and is a two-time NFHCA National Academic Squad and two-time Centennial Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll selection.
