GETTYSBURG, Pa. - In a tightly contested matchup McDaniel scored in the first half, but fell to Gettysburg on the road 4-1.
The first half began with both teams battling for possession at midfield. McDaniel (8-3-2, 1-3-2 CC) created the first scoring opportunity when
Anthony Suarez beat his defender and ripped a shot that went just wide of the goal. After that, Gettysburg (8-3-3, 3-2-2 CC) gained control and pushed forward on the Green Terror defense. In the 17th minute Bullets forward Connor Fife connected with Jack Carroll for the first goal of the game.
The Bullets found the back of the net 10 minutes later to take a two-goal lead. The Green Terror were able to respond just a few minutes later when
Joshua Martins got a step on his defender near the edge of the box. He dished it to a cutting
Conor O'Brien who was fouled by a Bullets defender drawing a penalty kick for McDaniel. Graduate Student
Nick Starr stepped up and calmly capitalized to put the Green Terror on the board.Â
Near the end of the first half Gettysburg scored again to take a 3-1 lead heading into halftime.
Gettysburg controlled most of the second half and were able to create 11 shots to McDaniel's one. However, the Green Terror defense held firm for the final 45 minutes. McDaniel Senior goalkeeper
Austin Heid recorded five of his six saves in the second period. Gettysburg kept sending in shots, but
Heid consistently came up with save after save. The Bullets scored one more time in the 79th minute to take a 4-1 lead, which held firm for the final score.
McDaniel returns to action on Saturday against Washington at home for Senior Day. The match is scheduled for 1 P.M.
