WESTMINSTER, Md. - McDaniel controlled the game from the opening whistle and found the back of the net twice to beat the Blue Jays 2-0.
As the game began, McDaniel (7-4-4) pushed forward and put the Blue Jays (5-8-1) defense on their heels. In the 10th minute
Jessie Titus took possession of the ball outside the box and ripped a shot that went just wide of the goal.Â
Two minutes later
Allison Storm lined up McDaniel's second corner kick of the game. Storm sent the ball into the box where
Taylor Clawson had gained position on her defender. After a deflection off the crossbar,
Clawson connected for her fourth goal of the season.Â
With a one-goal lead, McDaniel continued to pressure the Blue Jays all over the field. Sophomore midfielder
Jessica Weinoldt stepped in front and broke up multiple passes by the Elizabethtown midfield as the Blue Jays struggled to find a rhythm on offense. Elizabethtown's best scoring opportunity came just after the McDaniel goal. Cassidy Pawlecki corralled the ball in the middle of the box and ripped a shot to the bottom right corner. McDaniel goalkeeper
Katherine Carstensen anticipated the shot and made a diving save to keep the clean sheet alive.Â
In the 27th minute McDaniel earned another corner, which they almost capitalized on after
Storm sent in a perfect ball that was headed by
Samantha Rodrick just off frame.Â
In the first 30 minutes of action, McDaniel's stout defense held Elizabethtown to a pair of shots that were both off target. The Green Terror created two more scoring opportunities with shots by
Elizabeth LeChard and
Allison Storm, but both were saved by the Blue Jays keeper. McDaniel carried a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
Coming out of the locker room, both teams traded shots early in the second period. In the 63rd minute
Weinoldt attacked her defender down the right side of the field. She was able to gain a step deep in the box and crossed it over to
LeChard who was in great position at the six-yard line.
Elizabeth LeChard stepped up and sent the ball past the keeper to the far corner of the goal and extend the McDaniel lead to 2-0.
From that point on, McDaniel allowed just one shot on goal which was saved by
Carstensen. As the half continued, McDaniel continued to control possession and keep the ball in the Elizabethtown third of the field. The two-goal lead held firm and McDaniel came away with their seventh win of the season and maintain their unbeaten streak at home.
Carstensen recorded her ninth shutout of the season.
McDaniel returns to action on Wednesday at home against Washington College. The match is scheduled to begin at 3:30 P.M.
