Carstensen records six saves in loss at Haverford

DELAWARE COUNTY, Pa. - In a back-and-forth game, Haverford found the back of the net early in the second half to beat McDaniel 1-0.

McDaniel (6-4-4, 4-2-2 CC) started off the game by creating multiple opportunities deep in the Fords (6-3-4, 2-2-3 CC) territory. In the 10th minute Elaina Kluttz beat her defender and took a shot that was saved by the Fords keeper. McDaniel kept up the pressure and maintained possession in the Haverford third of the field. Jules Dotterweich ripped a shot in the 20th minute of action, but the Fords keeper was in position again to make the save.

In the first 30 minutes of action, McDaniel held Haverford to one shot with stellar defensive play by Ashley Thomas and Kiersten Crowley. Just over the 30-minute mark, McDaniel was awarded a corner. Allison Storm lined up and sent the ball into the box. Jessica Weinoldt found an opening in the defense and connected on a shot, but the Haverford keeper made another save.

In the 40th minute Haverford attempted their first shot on goal, but Katherine Carstensen was in position and made the save to hold the scoreless draw heading into the break.

To start the second half, Haverford took control on the offensive end and pushed forward into McDaniel territory. Katherine Carstensen made back-to-back saves to keep the clean sheet going. However, in the 60th minute Celia Page scored off a corner kick to give the Fords a one-goal lead.

After the goal, Haverford kept up the pressure and had three more opportunities to score. Carstensen was in position and made three more crucial saves to keep McDaniel within one goal of the Fords. As time became a factor late in the game, McDaniel pushed forward, but could not connect for the equalizing goal. Haverford held on for the 1-0 win.

McDaniel returns to action on Tuesday against Elizabethtown at home. The Match is scheduled to begin at 3:30 P.M.
