WESTMINSTER, Md. - McDaniel College volleyball freshman
Jayda Patterson and sophomore
Kathy Taveras combined for 18 digs, but a second-set rally by the Green Terror fell short as they fell to Muhlenberg Saturday inside the Gill Center.
McDaniel (1-10, 0-4 CC) fell for the first time in the last three home matches against the Mules.
Muhlenberg (8-7, 1-2 CC) totaled a .345 hitting percentage and four service aces in the first set as it jumped out to a 13-4 lead and never looked back. Esmae Oehler had four of her match-high 12 as the Mules won 25-14.
The second set featured three ties and McDaniel rallied from five points down on three separate occasions. Led by two blocks each from freshman
Mackenzie Mitchell and junior
Abigail Cook, the Green Terror limited Muhlenberg to a .102 hitting percentage. Cook also added three digs. McDaniel pulled within 24-22 on a kill by junior
Nia Roberts before Isabella Pontrelli picked up her fifth and final kill of the set to give the visitors a 25-22 victory.
The Mules led 10-4 in the third before McDaniel scored five of the next six points following a timeout to pull within two, 11-9. The Green Terror capitalized on three Muhlenberg errors and kills by Roberts and freshman
Kailey Young. However, the Mules answered with four-straight points to take a 15-9 lead and never let it slip below three the rest of the way en route to a 25-16 victory. Young and Patterson had three kills apiece while Patterson added six digs.
Patterson totaled a match-high 10 digs while Cook had four digs and three block assists. Sophomore
Allyson Burgee had six kills and Roberts added five.
McDaniel returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 5 at Dickinson.
