THE SKINNY
McDaniel recorded seven victories, including three by fall, to defeat Gettysburg 35-7 in the Centennial Conference (CC) opener for both teams.
THE LEADERS
• Alex DuFour (Owings Mills, Md./Owings Mills) opened the match with a 3-minute, 30-second pin to lead the Green Terror.
• Alex LaVeck (Reisterstown, Md./McDonogh) added a second pin on the night, winning in 2:05 at 165.
• Eric Ward Jr. (Salisbury, Md./J.M. Bennett) rounded out the night with a third-period fall.
FOR THE FOES
• Eric Mougalian led the Bullets with a 22-8 win at 149.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• Alex DuFour opened the match with a pin 30 seconds into the first period before Cole Jones (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll) added a forfeit win at 133 to stake McDaniel to a 12-0 lead.
• Jake Stein got Gettysburg on the board, opening up a 7-1 lead early in the second period en route to an 8-3 victory before Eric Mougalian's major decision at 149 closed the match to within 12-7.
• In a tightly contested bout at 157, Xavier Howard (Sykesville, Md./Wheaton) gave up an escape to fall behind 3-2 midway through the final period before a takedown several seconds later led to an eventual 11-3 major decision and 16-7 lead. Alex LaVeck stretched the lead to 22-7 with his first-period fall.
• Michael Bromley (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore) used a 14-4 win at 174 to make it a 26-7 lead before Yoann Olympio (Germantown, Md./Northwest) used a takedown midway through the third period to secure the match with a. 7-4 win at 184.
• After a double forfeit at 197, Eric Ward Jr. got a quick takedown midway through the heavyweight bout before eventually earning the fall in 6:19 to round out the night.
