THE SKINNY
In an evenly played game that each team had its chances with controlling play, 80 minutes was not enough to decide an outcome between McDaniel and Dickinson. Ultimately tied at 1-all, the Red Devils prevailed with three straight conversions in the shootout.
THE LEADERS
• Amanda Sponaugle (Milton, Del./Cape Henlopen) connected on a penalty stroke in the 37th minute to lead the Green Terror.
• Morgan Collins (Mt Airy, Md./South Carroll) was key to a solid defensive effort with two defensive saves.
FOR THE FOES
• Sierra Bobb led Dickinson with a goal in the 49th minute that ultimately forced overtime and the shootout.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• McDaniel controlled the middle portion of the game but could not convert outside of the Amanda Sponaugle penalty stroke 6:17 into the third quarter.
• Sierra Bobb redirected a Morgan Yandow-Harding hit off a penalty corner to tie the game in the first 34 seconds of the fourth quarter.
• The McDaniel defense withstood a flurry of Red Devil shots in the two 10-minute extra sessions, forcing the game to a shootout.
• Hailey Womer, Bobb, and Hannah Spiri each converted their attempts while Saige Stevens turned away the three McDaniel attempts to escape with the win.
THE INSIDE STORY
• Dickinson finished the game with a 13-7 advantage in shots, including 5-0 in the two extra periods. The Red Devils had a 15-12 edge in penalty corners with nine of them coming in the second OT alone.
• Mikayla Smith (Frederica, Del./Lake Forest) made seven saves for the Green Terror.
• Amy Richenderfer (Baldwin, Md./Fallston) made her team-leading fourth defensive save.
