Denlinger bookends first half with field goals for football

THE SKINNY STORY
Dickinson scored 24 straight points over 17 minutes, 36 seconds in the first half to key a 24-6 win over McDaniel.

THE LEADERS
• Peyton Denlinger (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) led the Green Terror with two field goals.
John Allan Furgeson (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus) threw for a career-best 194 yards on 18 of 28 passing.
Habeeb Baba (Bristol, Pa./Truman) made a career-high 10 tackles to lead the defense.

FOR THE FOES
• Diante Ball led the Red Devils with 23 carries for 95 yards.
• Robert Geiss has seven catches for 87 yards and a touchdown.

THE REST OF THE STORY
• After starting on the Dickinson side of the field with its second possession, McDaniel marched inside the 10-yard line before the drive stalled. The Green Terror had to settle for a 29-yard Peyton Denlinger field goal with 8:35 to play in the first quarter.
• The Red Devils responded with a 10-play, 77-yard drive that ended with a Devlin McCool 22-yard touchdown grab for a 7-3 lead with 3:31 to play in the quarter.
• Dickinson took advantage of a short field of their own, taking over and midfield and needing seven plays before Robert Geiss hauled in a 10-yard touchdown pass for a 14-3 lead just 50 seconds into the second quarter.
• Dickinson drove 79 yards after an interception inside the McDaniel 10 but the Green Terror stood strong and forced a 25-yard Raleigh Wynot field goal to make it 17-3 with 5:36 remaining in the second quarter.
• The Red Devils added a four-yard Bryce Baylor touchdown run to pay off a Tommy Buchert interception that set up the offense at the 10-yard line to make it 24-3 with 55 ticks left in the first half.
• McDaniel move down the field into the red zone before Denlinger split the uprights for a 32-yard field goal in the waning seconds of the half to make it 24-6 at the break.

THE INSIDE STORY
• Neither team scored in the second half.
• Dickinson finished with an advantage of 336-249 yards in total offense, including 172-55 on the ground.

NEXT UP
McDaniel has next week off before returning to action at home against Ursinus on Saturday, Oct. 16. Game time is 1 p.m.
