Gibson wins 800 with program-record time

THE SKINNY STORY
McDaniel took home four medals, including a gold in the 800, to lead the way in a sixth-place finish at the 2019 Centennial Conference (CC) men's indoor track and field championship hosted by Franklin & Marshall. The Green Terror finished with 62 points in the nine-team championship.

THE LEADERS
Gavin Gibson (Newark, Del./Sanford) won the 800 for the Green Terror's first gold medal at the CC championship in the event with a time of 1:55.94. He shaved two seconds off his previous program record and won the race by 1.40 seconds.
Nevin Stambaugh (Taneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key) took the silver medal in the heptathlon with a program-record score of 4,069 points. He posted the best marks in the field in the long jump (6.16 meters) and 60 hurdles (9.02 seconds). He placed in the top three in all seven events.
Billy Emerson (Germantown, Md./Watkins Mill) finished second in the shot put, earning the silver with a throw of 15.67 meters.
• The 4x200-meter relay took home the silver medal on Saturday with an ECAC-qualifying time of 1:33.83. The quartet of Caleb White (Glen Burnie, Md./Baltimore City College), Miky Kisi (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley), Jamie Mintz (Baltimore, Md./Benjamin Franklin) and Michael Gallagher (Elko, Nev./Elko) posted the No. 4 time in program history.

FOR THE FOES:
• Johns Hopkins won its seventh straight championship with 186 points, outdistancing Haverford by 76.5 points.

THE REST OF THE STORY
Alex West (Ashburn, Va./Broad Run) was fourth in the heptathlon with a personal-best score of 3,584 points. West had the best mark in the field in the shot put, winning the event with throw of 11.70 meters. He finished ninth in the open shot put with a throw of 11.61 meters.
Nevin Stambaugh qualified fifth in the 60 hurdles with a time of 9.13 seconds. In the finals on Sunday, he placed fourth with a personal-best time of 8.94 seconds, ranking third all-time.
Caleb White qualified sixth in the 60 hurdles with a time of 9.33 seconds. He was sixth in the finals with a time of 9.18 seconds, ranking sixth in program history. In the long jump, he finished 10th with a mark of 5.91 meters.
Patrick Smith (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) placed sixth in the triple jump with a mark of 12.47 meters, which ranks 10th in program history. He also placed 11th in the long jump with a mark of 5.89 meters.
James Moye (Upper Marlboro, Md../Largo) finished sixth in the shot put with a personal-best throw of 12.09 meters.
Miky Kisi finished seventh with a personal-best time of 52.38 seconds, ranking seventh in program history.
Michael Gallagher was eighth in the 400 with a time of 52.47 seconds.
Zachary Stango (Burtonsville, Md./Paint Branch) placed 12th in the 200 with a personal-best time of 24.19 seconds.
• The 4x400-meter relay of Caleb White, Miky Kisi, Kai Samuels and Gavin Gibson finished fifth with a time of 3:30.89.
• The distance medley relay of Gavin Gibson, Michael Gallagher, Kai Samuels (Pasadena, Md./Northeast) and Shaun Thompson (Mt. Airy, Md./Glenelg) finished seventh with a time of 10:50.98, which ranks ninth in program history.

THE INSIDE STORY
Caleb White finished ninth in the 60 prelims (7.35 seconds).
Jamie Mintz was 11th in the 60 prelims (7.36 seconds).
Kai Samuels finished 12th in the 400 (53.81).
Zachary Stango was 17th in the 400 (55.27), which was a personal-best time.
• The 4x800-meter relay (Shaun Thompson, Michael Gallagher, Stephen Porembski, Zachary Stango) was ninth with a time of 8:58.66.
