Box Score WESTMINSTER, Md. – Washington (Md.) scored twice in the game's first 8:16 en route to a 7-1 victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) field hockey action on Friday.
Gabrielle Yore (Olney, Md./Sherwood) converted the lone goal for the Green Terror (1-8, 0-4 CC), converting a penalty stroke with 1:35 to play in the first half.
Kailyn Brandt led the Shorewomen (5-5, 3-1 CC) with a goal and two assists.
Grace Steele opened the scoring, finishing a third chance on a scramble in the sixth minute.
Emily Pantazes tipped in a Brandt hit from the top on a corner in the ninth minute for a 2-0 lead.
Brandt then converted on a breakaway to make it a 3-0 game at the 27:27 mark before Yore's stroke cut the deficit to two at halftime.
Clare Ingersoll and Olivia Auer scored two minutes apart to stretch the lead to 5-1 just 3:04 into the second half.
Michaela Conners scored in the 44th minute before finding Liza Slavin just over three minutes later for the final margin.
Paige Ford (Edgewater, Md./South River) made 11 saves in the first 43 minutes in goal.
Washington finished with a 23-6 advantage in shots and 12-7 edge in penalty corners.
McDaniel returns to action at No. 11 Franklin & Marshall on Wednesday. Game time is 5 p.m.
