Box Score WESTMINSTER, Md. – Gettysburg needed its fourth straight overtime game to defeat McDaniel 4-3 in Centennial Conference (CC) field hockey action on Wednesday.
Megan Quattrone (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle Area) led the Green Terror (1-6, 0-2 CC) with a goal and an assist.
Emma Bertrando tallied her second goal of the game for the Bullets (2-4, 1-1 CC) with 2:20 to play in the first 15-minute overtime period for the victory.
After surviving a scare after a McDaniel shot hit the post early in the extra session, Bertrando fired a shot from the right side that snuck inside the back post for the victory.
Julia Soares dribbled around a defender to stake Gettysburg to a 1-0 lead just 4:52 into the game.
Quattrone evened the game in the 11th minute, knocking back her own saved shot.
An Allison Cavicchio rocket off a rebound once again put the Bullets in front at the 25:58 mark.
Emily Houska (Shrewsbury, Pa./Susquehannock) tipped in a long hit in by Gabrielle Yore (Olney, Md./Sherwood) to tie up the game just 48 seconds before halftime.
Bertrando blasted a shot from the upper-right side of the circle for a 3-2 lead at the 40:29 mark.
Just over six minutes later, Quattrone made a long run before making a quick pass to Yore, who finished the equalizer.
Gettysburg finished with a 24-11 advantage in shots and 14-3 advantage in penalty corners.
Elizabeth Collyer (Rock Hall, Md./Kent County) made five first-half saves while Paige Ford (Edgewater, Md./South River) had 10 stops in the second half and overtime.
The Green Terror returns to action at home against Swarthmore on Saturday. Game time is 5:30 p.m.
