Houska nets goal in final minute

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Stevenson built a 3-0 lead before defeating McDaniel 3-1 in the field hockey season opener for both teams on Friday.

Emily Houska (Shrewsbury, Pa./Susquehannock) netted the first goal of the season for the Green Terror (0-1), finishing a Megan Quattrone (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle Area) feed with just three seconds remaining.

Brooke Morris assisted on the first two goals for the Mustangs (1-0), who got goals from three different players.

Morris found Brigid Saroch in the 19th minute for a 1-0 lead. The advantage held that way until Morris found Marissa Hoffman in the 56th minute.

A Tanner Ridgely unassisted tally in the 68th minute accounted for the hosts' final goal.

Freshman Paige Ford (Edgewater, Md./South River) made six saves in her debut in goal.

Stevenson finished with a advantages of 16-5 in shots and 10-2 in penalty corners.

McDaniel returns to action at home against Shenandoah on Wednesday. Game time is 4 p.m.
