Stambaugh finishes second in heptathlon

CHESTER, Pa. – Nevin Stambaugh (Taneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key) finished second in the heptathlon to lead a quintet of McDaniel athletes at the Widener Field Meet in men's indoor track and field action on Thursday and Friday.

Scoring:

  • There was no team score.

Head of the Class: The following athletes won an event at the meet:

  • Nevin Stambaugh recorded 3335 points to finish second in the heptathlon, hitting the Centennial Conference-qualifying mark. He finished first in the pole vault, clearing 3.25 meters. He was also second in the 60 (7.74 seconds), long jump (5.61 meters) and 1000 (3:30.90). He was third in the 60 hurdles with a conference-qualifying time of 9.58 seconds.

Multi-Talented: The following athletes also competed in the heptathlon:

  • Evan Callahan (Boxborough, Mass./Acton-Boxborough) finished third with 2795 points. He finished first in the shot put with a throw of 10.31 meters.
  • Alex West (Ashburn, Va./Broad Run) finished fourth with 2516 points.
  • Will Bower (Emmittsburg, Md./MMI Prep) finished fifth with 2483 points. He finished second in the high jump, clearing 1.61 meters. He was also second in the pole vault, clearing 2.74 meters.
  • Alex Mejias (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) finished seventh with 2413 points. He finished first in the 1000 with a time of 3:14.98. He finished second in the shot put with a throw of 9.86 meters.

Top 10 Worthy: The following athletes achieved a mark that ranks in the program's all-time top 10:

  • Nevin Stambaugh now ranks third in the heptathlon with 3335 points.
  • Evan Callahan now ranks sixth in the heptathlon with 2795 points.
  • Alex West now ranks seventh in the heptathlon with 2516 points.
  • Will Bower now ranks eighth in the heptathlon with 2483 points.
  • Alex Mejias now ranks ninth in the heptathlon with 2413 points.
