WESTMINSTER, Md. – Muhlenberg scored twice in the game's final 21 minutes to record a 3-1 victory over McDaniel in the Centennial Conference (CC) field hockey opener for both teams on Friday.

Haley VanNostrand (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg Area) led the Green Terror (1-5, 0-1 CC) with a goal to tie the game in the 38th minute.

Rachel Strow scored all three goals for the Mules (5-0, 1-0 CC) to register a hat trick.

After a Paige West (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg) defensive save, Strow rebounded her own shot and put it home for a 1-0 lead at the 21:14 mark.

That lead held until the Muhlenberg defense played a ball back to its keeper, who kicked it left to VanNostrand. The senior fired on an open cage to draw the hosts even 2:07 into the second half.

Strow broke the tie, sliding home a shot from the middle of the circle off an Anna Kennedy feed at the 49:19 mark.

Strow then dribbled in nearly 18 minutes later and fired from the left wing for the final margin.

Christina Gooding (Milton, Del./Cape Henlopen) finished with seven saves while Laura Shriver (West Cape May, N.J./Lower Cape May Regional) joined West with a defensive save.

The Mules finished with advantages of 17-7 in shots and 20-3 in penalty corners.

McDaniel returns to action at Bryn Mawr on Saturday, Sept. 24. Game time is 3 p.m.
