SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Alex Panagakos (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) finished sixth in the 800 and was part of the winning distance medley relay to lead McDaniel at the Susquehanna Open in men's indoor track and field action on Saturday.
The Green Terror recorded five Centennial Conference (CC)-qualifying marks in the team's last tuneup before next week's championship at Ursinus.
Panagakos posted a time of 1:58.96 to become just the third Green Terror harrier to break two minutes in the indoor 800, besting the previous record by 0.22 seconds.
Panagakos also joined Thomas Runner (Elkridge, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti), Colin LaPenta (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) and Jim Heilman (Lutherville, Md./Baltimore Lutheran) to win the distance medley relay in a time of 10:42.72. It was the third-best time in program history.
Gavin Gibson and Chris Jones (Centreville, Va./Centreville) also posted CC-qualifying marks in the 800. Gibson finished 10th with a time of 2:02.79 while Jones was 15th in a time of 2:03.42.
Daniel Johnson (Westminster, Md./South Doyle) cleared 3.80 meters in the pole vault for the second week in a row to finish fourth. He was also 24th in the 60 hurdle (11.12 seconds).
Aaron Ferguson (Greenbelt, Md./Wheaton) rounded out those who hit the conference marks, finishing 36th in the 60 (7.62).
The Green Terror returns to action at the CC Championship hosted by Ursinus on Friday and Saturday.
