SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Chris Jones (Centreville, Va./Centreville) finished 14th in the 800 but was also part of the 4x800-meter relay that finished second to lead McDaniel at the Susquehanna Invitational in men's indoor track and field action on Friday.
Jones joined Alex Panagakos (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll), Jim Heilman (Lutherville, Md./Baltimore Lutheran) and Thomas Runner (Elkridge, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) to turn in a time of 8:05.32, which hit the ECAC-qualifying standard in the event. The same quartet ran a a second faster in December on the banked track at Navy but because of conversion factor for banked-to-flat track did not qualify for the ECAC meet (8:09.00).
Jones also hit the Centennial Conference (CC) mark in the 800 with his time of 2:03.56. Heilman added a 16th-place finish in the same event with a CC-qualifying time of 2:04.15. Gavin Gibson rounded out the trio of qualifiers in the event, finishing 28th in a time of 2:07.33.
Panagakos added the top individual placefinish, turning in a time of 52.30 seconds to finish seventh in the 400 and hit the CC standard.
Aaron Ferguson (Greenbelt, Md./Wheaton) rounded out the qualifiers on the track, turning in a time of 7.57 seconds to finish 26th in the 60.
Billy Emerson (Germantown, Md./Watkins Mills) led the way in the throws, finishing 10th in the shot put with a toss of 13.21 meters. Brandon Creyer (Blandon, Pa./Fleetwood Area) and Kevin Rosenthal (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) placed 23rd (11.22) and 24th (11.17), respectively. All three hit the CC standard in the event.
Daniel Johnson (Westminster, Md./South Doyle) moved into fifth place on the program's all-time list in the pole vault, clearing 3.80 meters.
McDaniel returns to action at the Susquehanna Open on Saturday, Feb. 20.
